This is what the mandatory information
looks like on your packaging
Four items — anyone using a dynamic code never has to reprint again. Here is the complete sample, ready to copy and tick off.

The 4 mandatory items — explained by example
Every item can be printed directly on the packaging or provided via a QR code.
Name or brand of the producer
The full company name or the registered brand. A trade name is sufficient if it is entered in the register.
Sample:
Alfa-Test-Industrie GmbH
Postal address
Full postal address: street, number, postcode, town, country. A website URL is not sufficient.
Sample:
Alfastr. 1-5, 12345 Alfastadt
Individual packaging ID
A unique identifier per packaging type. The format is up to you — the PPWR does not prescribe a particular scheme.
Sample:
VP-0001
Our recommendation: It has not yet been finally clarified whether it is sufficient for the packaging ID to be stored behind the QR code, or whether it must be legible directly on the packaging. We therefore recommend placing the ID in the centre of the QR code — this covers both cases permanently.
Electronic means of contact
An email address or the URL of a contact form. A phone number alone is not sufficient.
Sample:
info@alfatestgmbh.de
Common mistakes in practice
Only a website URL given as the address
A postal address is mandatory. www.example.com is not sufficient.
Packaging ID missing entirely
The ID must be unique per packaging type — not per individual item. VP-0001, VKT-2026 and similar are valid.
Only a phone number as contact
It has to be an electronic route: an email address or a contact form URL. A phone number alone is not enough.
Brand name instead of company name — and the brand is not registered
Registered brands are fine. If the brand is not in the trade mark register, the company name has to be used.
Packaging ID assigned twice (two types, same ID)
Every packaging type needs its own ID. VP-0001 for the 250 ml bottle, VP-0002 for the 500 ml bottle.
Information only on the inner label — not visible from outside
The information must be visible to the end consumer. An inner label alone is not sufficient.
What is coming from 2028 at the earliest
Further requirements — harmonised material codes, the collection stream, recycled content and a mandatory digital product passport — depend on delegated acts of the European Commission that have not been published yet. Earliest possible date: 12 August 2028.
Why print a QR code today anyway? The four mandatory items can be printed statically on the packaging — a dynamic QR code makes them changeable afterwards. Anyone printing a code today does not have to reproduce the print run when further fields are added in 2028.
